I promote pollution

I watched a movie today that basically has me be a bit scared about the future of our earth. It has been common for me to not even think about how bad we pollute and increase global warming. Especially from everyday appliances, the cars we drive, and tools we use....until now.

The movie that I watched today was entitled, "An Inconvenient Truth" which is a political documentary by Al Gore on the global climate change and the consequences that we have ahead of us. He is promoting the importance of humankind by going city to city and addressing the increasing global warming effect. It's does have a bit of hidden political bashing, but in good taste, of George Bush Jr. and his large stake in the oil business. The biggest scary issue that he brought up was the melting of Greenland and Antartica. It's slowly melting away, and from increased global warming, the melted ice can raise the seas up to 20 feet higher. He showed CGI images of shores spanning the continent that can possibly under water. The San Francisco Bay Area is one of them! September 11 was a big devastation for us, and the entire city of Manhattan can be under water as well. Of course, these are worst case scenarios, but it can happen!

Being in the car business that is promoting General Motors, I am a large contributor to this global warming effect. I help promote the selling of large SUVs, trucks, and gas guzzling sports cars that are polluting the air we breath. I must say that pollution does suck, but we still have to use internal gas combustion engines as a main source of personal transportation. Honestly, while watching this movie, it made me sink deeper into my seat out of embarassment. I basically am promoting pollution. It's good that GM is making a strong attempt to build a vehicle that can run on bi-fuel ethanol which is somewhat better for the environment. The still need to push a little harder on producing a good hybrid car....I think in the Saturn division so they can compete with Toyota, Honda, and even Ford.

At least after watching this movie, I am more aware of the dangers that we have ahead. I just feel bad for the future generations ahead that will have to suffer from the negligence of our generation. Who knows. I may have a change in heart and quit the car business....if pollution get really out of hand. We are all guity. Although taking action to better our environment is the first step.
