The Dust Has Settled

Our big sales event is over and now I have time to blog again. The last six days have been very brutal on all of the staff. As I mentioned earlier, we had a sales team from the SMART AUTOMOTIVE GROUP do a sale with us at our store to clear out our used cars. Basically, they send out a large direct mailing flyer to a group of individuals who fall within a specific credit score criteria, the customers come in for the event, and then we sell them a car. What's different is the fact that they take over the whole operation and we just assist them. They bring in their own sales managers, closers, and sales staff that incorporates with our staff. We were able to sell at least over 35+ cars in just five days! The have the sales talent and strong bank ties to get credit challenged individual driving in cars!

Some of the staff individuals from the Smart Automotive Group originate from Louisiana. One guy is from New Orleans and went back into the car business because he lost his restaurant from the Katrina hurricane. These individuals have a great personalities and show a lot of their southern charm. They indeed have the unique accents....like Adam Sandler's "Cajun Man" or "buffoon" voice....hey mang! It's very entertaining for anyone to talk to them, and a lot of customers can tell that they are not from around town.

Overall, it was a great experience working with them and we all benefitted from this sale.

Today, I have the day off and I had to listen to a seminar down in San Jose in regards to the new laws and regulations in California for the car business effective July 1, 2006. The changes in law basically protect the consumer when purchasing a vehicle and generate more paperwork for us to deal with. Comsumers now have to sign a credit disclosure and a pre-contract full pricing disclosure before any sales transaction. Comsumers also can purchase the option to return a used car back to the seller within two days and pay a restocking fee if they do return the vehicle. Currently, you cannot return a car once you take possession. These are the only major changes. Just more paperwork for consumers to sign, but I can see how this can protect the consumer and the dealer. In my honest opinion, this new law is a real huge pain in the ass. Before, we really didn't have to disclose much, but now....we have to disclose everything!
