Joined the "DARK SIDE" today
Today was a dark, rainy, and stormy day. For those of you in California, you've probably had enough of all the thunder storms we've been having the past few days. Flooding, power outages, sandbags, auto accidents, broken umbrellas, and all the other annoyances that come along with wet weather. With that being said, I've been trying to stay cozy inside and avoiding going outdoors unless necessary. Until TODAY! I risked my life driving in the pouring rain, down to my local Apple retail store.
The Blackberry gods are shaking their heads with disgust that I purchased an Apple iPhone 3GS today. Being a loyal Crackberry user for several years now; I really had trouble making the decision to switch to one of the most popular smart phones on the market. This purchase was more of an impulsive purchase, rather than really needing a phone because I cracked the screen from dropping it on hard cement. Which reminds me, I made a blog post several years ago when I purchased a Blackberry Curve 8300 where I referenced in my blog title, "Screw the iPhone." Now I'm literally eating my words!
The justification for this purchase is really stupid. My company is giving us new Blackberries. The Blackberry they are sending us happens to be the same model as my now previous Blackberry. I didn't want to look like a dork carrying two phones that are exactly the same. Looks much cooler to sport a iPhone as my personal phone and use the work Blackberry strictly for business. The other justification was to avoid the confusion of which phone to grab when it rings. Yeah, make a distinctive ringtone to separate the difference or put some sticker to identify the phone from the other; too complicated!!
The other justification for this purchase was the "coolness" factor. There are tons of "apps" being developed for the iPhone and plenty of apps to keep me occupied. Purely portable connectivity to the web, email, and social networks. All in the palm of your hand.
Most importantly, I want to talk about my whole Apple store experience considering the fact that I've been a PC guy since high school. Overall, the Apple Store experience was probably the fastest transaction I've ever made at any retail store. To put it simply, I walked in, asked for the specific phone I wanted, stood still in one place of the store for five minutes, and walked out with an activated phone. They probably asked me four questions, asked for my credit card, signed this little PDA device, activated the phone on a Mac, and it was DONE! They didn't waste any time. Even better, the person who helped me was very enthusiastic and very pleasant.
There you have it! I'm a converted iPhone user. Don't even get me started on Google's Andriod phone.
In the meantime....take a look at the new addition to our kitchen.
