A bad that turned good?

The Cobalt (aka Clare) has been out of commission for awhile. It's been awhile since I've blogged and I wanted to update everyone on what's going on. In my previous blog, I raved about the POM tea and now we have plenty of empty bottles. It was good as it lasted. Ok, back to the subject.

On Sunday, October I was driving to work and just so happened to run over a bouncing SUV tire on the westbound section of highway 580 in Oakland. Avoiding debis on the road always causes havoc and it can also potentially cause an accident. The car in front of me ran over the tire and kicked the tire into my drive path. As I see the tire bouncing in front of me, I had four choices to make in a matter of seconds.
1) Hit the center divide to my left,
2) Hit the person to my right pacing at the same speed,
3) Slam on my brakes and have the tailgater butt ram me, or
4) Hit the tire head on.

I chose option 4.

I cringed as the tire goes under the car and listening to the loud "thump". I could only image the damage this tire is going cause. I was in a rush to head into work because I had to open the dealership, and I didn't have the time to pull over to inspect the damage. Worried about the damage on the remaining way to work, I inspected the car after I open the dealership.

A little worried as I walk back to my car, I look to inspect the damage. It didn't look bad at all. As I looked more closely, I see that the lower bumper fascia is cracked and I see a little bit of coolant dripping from the radiator. NOT GOOD! MUI MALO!

We have a bodyshop at our dealership and decided to leave the car behind for them to do an estimate of the damage. Here's the damage:
-Replace the front bumper and paint match
-Replace the A/C condensor, the supercharger heat exchanger, and the radiator. The first two items got smashed into the radiator.
-My exhaust system also too was banged up.

I have eSurance, and they were very prompt with sending out an estimator and sending out the check for the repairs. The nice aspect about working for a dealership and knowing the bodyshop manager gives me the extra edge that other customer don't have.....I get work and parts at employee costs. The GM original parts actually cost more than aftermarket parts, and I've decided to make a few changes with better GO FAST PARTS. This is great! I get to upgrade a few items basically at the expense of my insurance company! Here is the list of new parts:
-Larger heat exchanger
-GM Performance Parts Extrude Honed Manifold Header
-Random Technology 2.75" Downpipe with High Flow Catlytic Converter
-Random Technology 2.75" Cat Back Exhaust
-New Bumper

I'm happy that these modifcations were able to come out of the insurance claim. This is over $2000 in parts alone, not including labor for installation.
