Life without a Flat Panel Plasma Television
I am a huge advocate for the purchasing of Protection Plans or Extended Service Plans. People usually think they are a total waste of money. Especially when you never use it. The reason why I'm such a huge advocate of protection plans; I used to sell them when I was automotive sales business. If you're going to sell these products, you should be a strong believer in them. I'm one of those strong believers in these products. Why? It saved my ass countless times.
Protection Plans are just another form of insurance. It's just like auto insurance or homeowners insurance. It protects your investments! You may never use it, but you can sleep at night knowing that you're protected. When you have problems or situations, you're covered with peace of mind. It saves you money as well.
For any large ticket items I usually purchase a protection plan. My 50" Philips Plasma with Ambi-light is one of those items. I've had about two major incidents where my TV broke after the one year factory warranty and I was covered by my protection plan. The first time, I had a "white screen" from a control module that went bad. Now I have a black vertical line that appears on the lower left hand of the screen.
It turns out they have to replace the entire plasma panel. The panel alone costs roughly $1000 not including labor. This is a two man installation....so I can only imagine the hourly labor costs!
The protection plan did cost $899, but the two incidents already paid for itself. Plus I'm covered for many other unexpected malfunctions until October 2010. Once I'm out of warranty, I'll probably trash this plasma for something newer.
So here we are. Waiting for the repair man to return to fix the tv.
In the meantime, feel free to enjoy this video of Sherry playing the Wii.
