Happy Valentine's Day
Yes, we dwell upon this day of love. I'm sure there is a historical and mysterious religious background behind the purpose of this day. But it all boils down to a huge profit generator for florists and candy stores. I hate to say it, but it's us MEN who fall into this sucker scam on this day. People get caught up with the cards, the chocolate, the long stem roses, and sometimes lavish jewelry or other nice gifts. This day should be the sharing of gifts between loved ones, but it seems like it's always a one way street. The male is the one who is in the dog house if this day is forgotten.
Love can be interpreted and shown in many different ways. It doesn't have to be shown with candy, roses, and all those common gifts that women expect. I think men fall victim to this and women take advantage of it. Call me cheap, but I would rather do something nice for my woman (that doesn't cost money) rather than wait in the crowded lines for flowers and candy....just so I'm not in the dog house! This can happen on any day of the year.
I'm sure there are plenty of women out there who cater to their man on this day. But us guys won't get upset if we didn't get anything. Am I wrong? Believe it or not, but statistics say that women are largest consumers to Valentine's Day. The ironic observation that I noticed, was the bustling isles of men buying cards and roses at the stores. So who's right?
Honestly, Valentine's Day can be on any day of the year. Why make it a special day so that we can cater to the retailers who mark up their flowers and candies because they can get away with the high demand for it on this day.
I did my loving deed by getting S a dozen roses, candy, and a nice card. Again, I found a bargain at Costco for roses $13.99. WOW! Again, this could have been given on any day besides today.
For all the loved ones out there! Happy Valentine's Day! Celebrate this day of love.
